With respect to the editing of fiction and nonfiction book manuscripts, authors can expect a really professional, high-quality, first-rate editing job, including:
- The standard proofreading for grammar, punctuation, and spelling – but then also
- Flow
- Clarity
- Syntax (word choice)
- Sentence and paragraph structure
- Consistency
- And elimination of any excessive repetition of words, phrases, or material
This kind of edit is sometimes referred to as a “Level 2 Edit.” A Level 1 Edit is only grammar, punctuation, and spelling; and a Level 3 Edit is when editing of the storyline or content is desired. So this Level 2 Edit is a deep-level edit, but without changing the storyline or content. We also make it a point to respect and not change the writer’s style, like with particular words or phrases that they like to use, or how they express themselves.
So that clients can review the work, a marked-up PDF is always provided, showing all the edits. There is generally quite a good amount of editing, and clients always feel that they have received their money’s worth and are very pleased with the work.
In the end, the client should have a book that can be proudly shown to others, whether they be professional peers, publishers, family, or friends.
